Length 18″/46cm (neckband folded)
2 170g/6oz balls (each approx 108yd/97m)
of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in #149 charcoal (A)
and #139 cranberry (B)
One pair each sizes 11 and 13 (8mm and
9mm) needles or size to obtain gauge
Size 11 (8mm) circular needle, 24″/ 60cm long
One set (4) dpn size 11 (8mm)
11 sts and 12 rows to 4″/10cm over St
st and chart pat using larger needles.
Take time to check gauge.
When changing colors, twist yarn on WS to prevent holes, and carry unused yarn looselyacross back of work.
Houndstooth Check Pattern (4 st repeat)
(RS) K 1 st in A, 1 st in B, 2 sts in A
(WS) P3 sts in B, 1 st in A
(RS) K 1 st in A, 3 sts in B
(WS) P1 st in A, 1 st in B, 2 sts in A
With smaller needles and A, beg at neck and cast on 43 sts.
Row 1 (RS) K1, *k1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2 K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end. Rep last 2 rows until piece
measures 5″/12.5cm from beg, end with a WS row. Change to larger needles. Work in St st and chart pat, inc 1 st each side (work-ing inc sts into pat) on next row, then every row 4 times more—53 sts. Work even until piece measures 8″/20.5cm from beg.
Working both legs at same time, k4, bind off 6 sts, k33, bind off 6 sts, k4—41 sts. Working with bobbins for each section, cont
in pat until leg openings measure 4″/10cm, end with a WS row.
Next row (RS) K4, cast on 6 sts, k33, cast on 6 sts, k4—53 sts. Cont.
in pat until piece measures 13″/33cm from beg (or until desired length to end of rib cage), end with a WS row.
Side edge shaping
Cont in pat, bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Next row (RS) Ssk, work to last 2 sts, k2tog. Work 1 row even. Rep last 2 rows 4 times more—31 sts. Work even until piece measures 18≤”/47cm (or until desired length to base of tail) from beg. Place sts on holder.
Block pieces to measurements. Join seam from neck edge to bound-off edge, reversing seam on neck for 2≤”/6.5cm (for turnback
turtleneck). Back band With RS facing, circular needle and A, beg at
chest seam and pick up 18 sts evenly along edge to sts on holder, rib across sts, pick up 18 sts evenly along other edge to seam—67
sts. Join and work in k1, p1 rib for 4 rnds. Bind off loosely in rib.
